Northend United U13's 0 Waveney Youth U13's 1
Saturday 24th October 2009
After a one week lay-off, Northend United took on Waveney Youth in a league match at Smithfield. This lack of match practice showed in the Northend game and Waveney took the lead in the first few minutes when a free kick was knocked down to their striker and he scored with a low drive into the Northend net.
This early goal disrupted the usual Northend passing game and it was twelve minutes before Northend had their first shot on goals. Jamie Speirs was unlucky when his shot went narrowly wide of the post. In a golden spell mid-way through the first half, Jaime Brown and Matthew Mulholland saw shots sail narrowly over the cross bar and Niall Swann headed a corner inches past the upright.
However Northend were unable to capitalise on this possession and Waveney upped their game towards the end of the first half. Niall Shannon, in the Northend net, pulled off two excellent saves and Niall Swann was having an inspirational game at the heart of the Northend defence.
The score remained 1-0 to Waveney at half time.
Northend came out for the second half with a change of formation and Ryan Walsh replaced Lafferty. They immediately took the game to Waveney but found the Waveney defence in great form, giving Northend very little at the back.
Northend should have equalised mid-way through this half when a Matthew Mulholland shot was cleared off the Waveney goal line.
With time running out Glen Fenton replaced Brown but Northend could not score in the remaining minutes of the game.
A special mention to Michael Laverty, who started his first game for Northend and gave a good account of himself at left-back

Northend United U13's 2 Carrick Rangers Colts U13's 2
Saturday 10th October 2009
Northend United started this match in a lively pace and should have gone ahead on seven minutes when Ryan Walsh squandered his chance when put clear with a Matthew Mulholland through ball.
Another excellent through ball from Stefan McLees again split the Carrick defence, leaving Ryan Walsh with only the keeper to beat but his shot went narrowly wide.
Northend were running rampant at this stage and a cross from Jaime Brown on the left wing found Walsh in the box, but his shot hit the post and was eventually cleared by the Carrick defence.
With Jamie Speirs and Matthew Mulholland pulling the strings in midfield, Northend continued to dominate play.
It wasn't until the twenty-first minute, when an over-the-top ball from Caolan Tierney found Matthew Mulholland, and his fearless header found the back of the net and left the Carrick goalkeeper minus a tooth, following an aerial collision.
The resultant stoppage for treatment to the players had a detrimental affect on Northend and when play resumed, Carrick Rangers gained the upper hand.
Niall Shannon in the Northend goal came quickly off his line to clear a dangerous through ball and the defence of Leetch, Campbell, Swann and Tierney remained resolute against the Carrick attacks.
Northend conceded a goal just before half time when the Carrick striker evaded three Northend tackles and placed the ball wide of the Northend keeper and into the net.
Half time 1-1
The second half started with both sets of defences in commanding form. In an excellent advert for Youth football, both teams played some superb passing football. As the half progressed Carrick Rangers were gaining the upper hand and took the lead mid-way through the half, when an uncharacteristic error in the Northend defence allowed the Carrick Rangers striker to shoot past the advancing Niall Shannon in the Northend goal.
Jordan Donnelly replaced Walsh and he had an immediate impact on the game with his probing runs down the line.
Niall Shannon, in the Northend goal, was again called on to clear two Carrick through balls which had evaded the Northend defence.
With five minutes of the game remaining, Northend won a corner and pushed almost everyone forward. From the resultant kick, Jaime Brown volleyed home to score Northend's second of the game much to the delight of the large home crowd.
A hungry and determined Northend defended resolutely until the end of the game to leave the final score 2-2.

Barn United U13's 4 Northend United U13's 3
Saturday 3rd October 2009
This match started at a lively pace and both teams were taking the game to each other. Northend, playing into a strong breeze, had the better of the early exchanges.
Northend United started this game minus their influential captain and their problems were further compounded when Dylan Hamill had to come off the field of play after nine minutes, due to sickness.
Both teams had chances in the first half, the better of which fell to Northend. Jaime Brown was making penetrating runs down the left hand side and was very unlucky on two occasions when shots drifted narrowly past the Barn United goal.
Ryan Walsh missed a glorious opportunity to put Northend ahead, when a through ball from Stefan McLees left him with a one on one with the goalkeeper, but he shot narrowly past the post.
The Northend defence of Donnelly, Swann, Campbell and Tierney were defending superbly against the strong breeze and Niall Shannon, in the Northend goal, saved anything that come his direction.

The score remained scoreless until half-time.
Northend United came out for the second half with the breeze at their backs but for the first twelve minutes of the half, pressed the self-destruct button.
Barn United raced to a three goal lead, caused by some sloppy defending by Northend United. The hunger and determination shown by Northend in the first half had disappeared.
Ciaran McCambridge and Glen Fenton replaced Jordan Donnelly and Paul Marrs.
Ryan Walsh scored after fifteen minutes when from a Philip Leetch through-ball, he raced clear of the Barn United defence and placed a pinpoint shot past the Barn keeper.
This goal gave Northend hope and Jamie Speirs was next to score when, after the Barn United keeper had partially cleared the ball, he was on hand to score with a well placed shot.
Northend were pushing almost everyone forward for the equaliser and Barn United caught them out on the counter attack and beat Niall Shannon in the Northend goal to make the score 4-2 in Barn United's favour.
Almost straight from the kick-off, Jaime Brown, who was having an excellent game, scored the goal of the game, when he unleashed a left foot drive into the roof of the Barn United net.
With time running out, Jamie Speirs was unlucky when his shot was cleared off the goal line by a Barn United defender after the goal keeper was well beaten.
Barn United made a series of substitutions to waste the remaining minutes and after an injury to one of their players which took three minutes for the game to recommence, the referee blew the final whistle having played just ten seconds over the time.

Dylan Hamill increased Northend's lead when he volleyed home a loose ball from a corner kick.
It was all Northend now and Matthew Mulholland scored the goal of the game when he scored with a left foot curling shot into the top corner of the net, after beating three Antrim Rovers players to get his shot in.

Saturday 12th September 2009
In a game of two halves, Northend United were very slow to start and found themselves a goal down after only three minutes, when the Comber striker scored with a low drive into the corner of the net to give the Northend keeper Niall Shannon no chance.
Northend never recovered from this early knock and went on to concede two further goals in the thirteenth and nineteenth minutes to find them selves 3-0 down. The much more physical Comber Team were dictating play at this stage. Some tough tackling from Jordan Donnelly and Niall Swann prevented further Comber chances.
After some reorganisation, Northend came more into the game and much to the relief of the home support, Ryan Walsh pulled one back for Northend when he converted a Jaime Brown cross, on twenty-six minutes.
Northend continued to press Comber for the rest of the half without adding to the scored of 3-1.
Northend came out a more determined team in the second half and continued on from where they finished in the first half, taking the game to Comber Rec.
Northend dominated this half and Niall Swann reduced the score to 3-2 when he scored with a bullet header from a Matthew Mulholland corner kick, after fifteen minutes. This goal gave Northend some spirit and for the rest of the game, Northend attacked Comber Rec, time after time.
Stefan McLees was unlucky with a shot that was cleared of the goal line and in a resultant corner; Jaime Brown was unlucky with another shot that was saved with the keeper.
With Matthew Mulholland and Jamie Speirs pulling the strings in midfield, Northend looked they could equalise the score.
